SPB Exchange monthly report, August 2021

The value of foreign-securities transactions in main trading on SPB Exchange in August 2021 amounted to USD 28.69 billion,* down 8.56% from July (USD 31.38 billion) but up 88.84% from August 2020 (USD 15.195 billion).

The average daily trading volume involving foreign securities in August decreased by 8.56% from July to USD 1.3 billion. Traders made 27.23 million transactions in main trading sessions in August.

The number of active investor accounts in August decreased by 2.26% to 854.65 thousand (874.44 thousand in July). The number of accounts with positions in securities amounted to 1.36 million, up 4.85% from July.

As of August 31, 13.78 million client accounts had been admitted to trading on SPB Exchange, an increase of 6.57% from a month earlier (12.93 million in July). The number of unique customers amounted to 9.39 million, 6.65% more than in July.

Trades were executed in August involving 1,574 shares and depositary receipts of foreign issuers as well as 21 Eurobonds. The value of transactions in main trading involving Eurobonds in August amounted to USD 3.01 million.

The leading foreign securities in terms of trading volume in main trading sessions were the shares and depositary receipts of the following issuers: Moderna (SPB: MRNA, 10.75%** of the total trading volume by value in August), Virgin Galactic (SPB: SPCE, 7.89%), Tesla (SPB: TSLA, 4.46%), VipShop (SPB: VIPS, 3.85%), Alibaba (SPB: BABA, 3.83%), Apple (SPB: AAPL, 1.96%), Robinhood (SPB: HOOD 1.85%), MicroStrategy (SPB: MSTR, 1.80%), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (SPB: AMD 1.79%) and Amazon (SPB: AMZN, 1.62%).

The top 10 shares and depositary receipts of foreign issuers in investor portfolios in monetary terms as a percentage of the total volume at the end of August (average portfolio) were Alibaba (SPB: BABA, 5.35%), Virgin Galactic (SPB: SPCE, 3.65%), Tesla (SPB: TSLA, 3.46%), Apple (SPB: AAPL, 3.35%), Amazon (SPB: AMZN, 2.98%), Freedom Holding (SPB: FRHC, 2.74%), Baidu (SPB: BIDU, 1.82%), Boeing (SPB: BA, 1.72%), Vipshop (SPB: VIPS, 1.55%) and Microsoft (SPB: MSFT, 1.47%).

The share of trading volume in securities from the list of indices*** approved by the Bank of Russia in the total trading volume (in main trading sessions) in August amounted to 46.85%.

In August, 18.64% of the monthly trading volume took place between 10:00 and 16:30 Moscow time, while 2.05% of monthly trading took place between 7:00 and 10:00 Moscow time (100 shares and depositary receipts are available for investors during this trading period).

The five leading traders in terms of trading volume in August (in main trading sessions) were Tinkoff Bank, VTB Bank (PJSC), AO Alfa Bank, BCS Ltd. and IC Finam JSC.
