SPB Exchange monthly report, July 2021

The value of foreign-securities transactions in main trading on SPB Exchange in July 2021 amounted to USD 31.38 billion,* down 16.38% from June (USD 37.53 billion) but up 111.81% from July 2020 (USD 14.81 billion).

The average daily trading volume involving foreign securities in July decreased by 16.38% from June to USD 1.43 billion. Traders made 29.94 million transactions in main trading sessions in July.

The number of active investor accounts in July increased by 1.5% to 874.44 thousand (861.77 thousand in June). The number of accounts with positions in securities amounted to 1.29 million, up 6.6% from June.

As of July 31, 12.93 million client accounts had been admitted to trading on SPB Exchange, an increase of 6.05% from a month earlier (12.2 million in June). The number of unique customers amounted to 8.8 million, 6.04% more than in June.

Trades were executed in July involving 1,568 shares and depositary receipts of foreign issuers as well as 22 Eurobonds. The value of transactions in main trading involving Eurobonds in July amounted to USD 3.4 million.

The leading foreign securities in terms of trading volume in main trading sessions were the shares and depositary receipts of the following issuers: Virgin Galactic (SPB: SPCE, 24,89%** of the total trading volume by value in July), TAL Education (SPB: TAL, 5,37%), Moderna (SPB: MRNA, 4,89%), Tesla (SPB: TSLA, 4,10%), Alibaba (SPB: BABA, 3,88%), Amazon (SPB: AMZN, 2,50%), VipShop (SPB: VIPS, 2,34%), Apple (SPB: AAPL, 2,07%), Baidu (SPB: BIDU, 1,48%), MicroStrategy (SPB: MSTR, 1,17%).

The top 10 shares and depositary receipts of foreign issuers in investor portfolios in monetary terms as a percentage of the total volume at the end of July (average portfolio) were Alibaba (SPB: BABA, 5,41%), Tesla (SPB: TSLA, 4,10%), Virgin Galactic (SPB: SPCE, 3,86%), Apple (SPB: AAPL, 3,27%), Freedom Holding (SPB: FRHC, 2,67%), Amazon (SPB: AMZN, 2,05%), Boeing (SPB: BA, 1,97%), Baidu (SPB: BIDU, 1,76%), Vipshop (SPB: VIPS, 1,63%), Microsoft (SPB: MSFT, 1,43%).

The share of trading volume in securities from the list of indices*** approved by the Bank of Russia in the total trading volume (in main trading sessions) in July amounted to 38.58%.

In July, 20.03% of the monthly trading volume took place between 10:00 and 16:30 Moscow time, while 4.01% of monthly trading took place between 7:00 and 10:00 Moscow time (100 shares and depositary receipts are available for investors during this trading period).

The five leading traders in terms of trading volume in July (in main trading sessions) were Tinkoff Bank, VTB Bank (PJSC), AO Alfa Bank, BCS Ltd. and IC Finam JSC.
